Overview of Snowflake Editions
Standard Edition
Standard Edition is like the basic version of Snowflake, a software service. With this version, complete access to all the regular features is offered. It’s a good balance between features, support, and cost, making it a solid choice for many users.
Enterprise Edition
Enterprise Edition has everything that the Standard Edition offers, plus extra features made for big companies and organizations. It’s designed to meet the specific needs of large-scale operations.
Business Critical Edition
Enterprise for Sensitive Data (ESD), formerly known as Business Critical Edition, provides even greater levels of data protection to meet the demands of enterprises with extremely sensitive data, especially PHI that needs to be compliant with HITRUST CSF and HIPAA regulations.
It has improved security and data protection along with all the features and services of the Enterprise Edition. Database failover/failback also provides support for disaster recovery and business continuity.
Virtual Private Snowflake (VPS)
For those with the toughest requirements, such financial institutions and other large corporations that gather, analyze, and communicate extremely sensitive data, Virtual Private Snowflake delivers our greatest level of protection.
With the exception of being separated from all other Snowflake accounts and having all the features and services of the Business Critical Edition, it is a fully standalone Snowflake environment (i.e., VPS accounts do not share any resources with accounts outside the VPS). You can, if you’d like, allow data exchange with non-VPS users. For further information, see Support for Auto-fulfillment in Virtual Private Snowflake.
